Curriculum Overview

We have a fantastic collective understanding of how children learn and how to help them to achieve their very best.

At Arise Community School, we are keen for our children to foster a love of learning! We aim to provide an interesting and enriched curriculum that enables pupils to become enthusiastic, curious learners and respectful, responsible citizens who know how to keep themselves safe. We aim to raise aspirations so that children know that if they believe, they really can achieve. We strive to ensure that all of our children aim to be the best that they can be.

We offer the Tanzania National Curriculum from Pre-primary up to primary school education level of which we have subdivided the two main Semesters into Three terms. We also offer computer classes to all our pupils from Grade 3 to Grade 7 to equip them with technological skills, so as to help them in future to cope with dynamic changes in technology.

We provide a thorough, systematic grounding in all subjects including English, Mathematics, Science, Vocational Skills, Science, Health and physical education, history, and geography.

For all curriculum subjects, teachers plan and assess against carefully organised learning objectives to continually build upon and extend knowledge and skills. Our carefully planned ‘Curriculum Enrichment’ enhances this further, ensuring that by the time they leave us, children have had a wide variety of opportunities and experiences. In addition to our academic program, we seek to promote family values to develop our students’ heart and character in preparation for an adult life of living for the sake of others.

If you would like further information about the curriculum our school is following, please contact a member of the school office staff who can arrange an appointment for you (Tel. +255 (0) 752 471 879).

To help monitor academic progress, students participate in class assessments, recognised standardised tests for literacy and numeracy as well as National Assessment Program SFNA and PSLE. Students may be involved in external competitions in English, mathematics, science, languages, poetry and sports, as well as music recitals, eisteddfods and visual arts displays.

The school has an ongoing process of reporting student progress and achievements to parents through parent–teacher interviews and written reports. Information evenings are also scheduled to brief parents on what is ahead.

Homework provides students with opportunities to consolidate their classroom learning, to practise and establish behaviour for lifelong learning beyond the classroom, and to involve family members in their learning. The setting of homework takes into account the need for students to have a balanced lifestyle. This includes sufficient time for family, recreational and cultural pursuits.

A well-balanced, happy child is a motivated learner. Placing the developmental needs of students foremost, we aim to strengthen the home/school partnership through our Homework Policy, focusing on both the pastoral and academic needs of the individual student.

We value the opportunity to take our children on exciting adventures and we love welcoming inspirational visitors in school.

During the year, classes attend excursions that introduce different ways of learning and enhance the children’s experiences and knowledge of subjects covered in class. Examples include Wildlife site visits, Industrial sites, Government offices, and may other interesting sites for learning.

On-site visits vary in format and may be interactive presentations by visiting men and women in our community who are accomplished in their chosen field, such as scientists, cultural leaders and performers.

Our approach is to link excursions and on-site visits to an area of investigation within the classroom.
